MGT Teesside’s £650million biomass power plant is now the largest of its kind in the world. The plant, which is fuelled by woodchips and pellets, has the capacity to generate electricity for the equivalent of 600,000 homes. MGT Teesside says that the plant will help to create a “low carbon economy” and that it will be a “key driver” in the region’s transition to a cleaner energy mix. The company also says that the plant will create more than 200 jobs during its construction phase and that it will make a “significant contribution” to the local economy. MGT Teesside’s biomass power plant is an impressive feat of engineering, and it is clear that it will have a positive impact on the region.

Redcar Bulk Terminal LTD

Redcar bulk terminal ltd is one of the best deep water facilities of its type in the UK. Its 320 metre long quay can accommodate vessels up to 17 metres draft and it’s also approved for the storage of uncleared goods. Redcar is a deep water facility located at Teesport which is the busiest and largest port on the east coast of England. The port has excellent road and rail connections to the hinterland. Redcar is also a Freeport which offers significant benefits including customs duty exemptions and simplified customs procedures. The terminal is operated by Redcar Bulk Terminal Limited, a subsidiary of PD Ports. The company has a long-term lease from Teesworks, the site’s owner and operator. Redcar Bulk Terminal Limited is a major employer in Redcar with around 90 staff.

Tarmac a CHC Company

Tarmac is the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions business. Tarmac supplies high quality asphalt and industry-leading solutions nationwide from its South Bank site. Tarmac’s teesport and Teesworks are the country’s largest Freeport sites, with a capacity of handling over 10 million tonnes of freight each year. Tarmac is also the only company in the world to have its own purpose-built trainee school, Tarmac Academy, which trains over 500 people each year.
